Experienced Hauler: Irv Seaver 1972 Ford F100

This 1972 Ford F-100 was used from new as a hauler for Seaver BMW in Santa Ana, a fixture in the SoCal motorcycle scene. The truck has amazingly retained all of its original paint according to the seller, and that includes the hand-painted logos and graphics. To re-paint this truck would be a sin, and we love that it has lasted this long so straight and dry. Find it here on eBay in Los Angeles, California with no reserve. Special thanks to TY reader Rory C. for this submission!

The truck was named “Orange,” event though Ford always called this color Calypso Coral.  The pre-war CZ bike below looks right at home in the bed (though it is not included in the sale), and the original tie-downs remain serviceable.

The engine is a 302 V8, and the transmission is a 3-speed manual on the tree. The truck was used by the dealer until it was retired in 1992, and given to the dealer service manager as a gift for 30 years of service to the company. It then changed hands a few times and has remained on the road getting regular miles.

The truck has recently received new Goodyear tires, a new clutch, and had the engine thoroughly serviced along with a rebuilt carb.

This is a solid truck with a cool story, and we love that the seller is offering it with no reserve. We hope it goes to a Throttle Yard reader who will use it to rescue plenty more bikes from the SoCal area.

  1. This would be a hit at any bike run, or truck show. Nice look, nice to see an original truck showing use and wear, versus a beat to hell rust pot full of so-called “patina”. This is REAL patina, not that fake crap. I like this one!

  2. That is so cool.

  3. Nice old Ford, liked three on the tree, lot’ of good cycle kharma through this one. Ossa??? haven’t seen that since….
This old sucker probably hauled some very interesting machines. Keep prayin’ fer that barn find!!!!

  4. Very cool indeed. If it were mine, I’d try to bring the hand painted lettering back to life…same color, just filled in where it has worn away so it was a little more readable again. Otherwise, leave it as is. My 75′ CR250 Elsinore would look good in the bed. :o) “Q”

  5. I reckon a Suzuki TM250 or an Ossa Phantom would be more appropriate, Q. ;)
